A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT 4.1.16

Untitled-2More great news to celebrate!  Our Beautiful Beaufort has been nominated in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel awards for Best Historic Small Town, Best Small Town Weekend Escape and Best Coastal Small Town 2016. We need your help – be sure to click here to vote!

The spring tourist season is in full swing and we are busy welcoming many new faces to the area.  Unfortunately as many of our visitors travel to and from our destination, they see the need to fix our roads here in South Carolina.  Negotiations are still ongoing .  The SC House of Representatives finished its budget last week.  The House-passed budget included $415 million allocated to roads next year.  This is certainly a step in the right direction, but there is still work that needs to be done to fix the issue. After the recess, the House will need to consider the Senate version of the roads bill which allocates $400 million to roads and reforms the DOT and the State Infrastructure Bank.  South Carolina’s infrastructure is vital to the future of our economy and our quality of life.

We’re watching H.3147 – The Military Retirement Income Tax Exemption, which is currently in the Senate.  This bill seeks to eliminate income tax on military retirement income in South Carolina, which would help us attract more retired military to our area.   We are seeing movement in the issuing of permits to renourish our beloved Hunting Island, too.   We’re hopeful that these issues will be addressed in this session.  We will continue to monitor these bills and keep you informed.

All the best,

blakely
