Untitled-2It’s March madness!  As you watch your brackets closely, know your Chamber is hard at work attracting more visitors to the area, advocating for important legislation and creating opportunities to help your business succeed.   We take great pride in taking care of businesses and have done it with pleasure since 1892.

This past week, we were proud to be a part of Bay Street Jewelers Milestone Celebration as Mark & Terri Stokes celebrated 25 years as the owners of Bay Street Jewelers.  This year also marks the 75th year the downtown Beaufort business has been open, which is truly remarkable.  In Port Royal, we were honored to celebrate with the owners of Printology Signs & Graphics, Wendi & Mark Russell, as they held their official ribbon cutting ceremony.  I hope you will take the time to congratulate each of them on their accomplishments.

This past week, we were encouraged to see movement on the roads and infrastructure bill.   The House voted to carry over the comprehensive infrastructure funding and reform bill, H.3579.  They are expected to take up the bill in a few weeks.

We are also encouraged to see legislation to eliminate income tax on military retirement income in South Carolina move forward.  Earlier today, the amended bill, H.3147, passed the Senate Finance Committee.  The legislation would incentivize military retirees to remain in the Palmetto State as they transition to a new career, which enhances the state’s workforce pool.  The bill is now headed to the Senate.

Thank you for your continued support!

All the best,

Blakely Williams

Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce, President & CEO
