This is certainly a busy time of year as we welcome visitors from all over to Beaufort, Port Royal and the Sea Islands.  I love seeing our streets alive, tour carriages packed and our restaurants in full swing.  The spring tourist season is off to a great start and we look forward to welcoming new friends and seeing familiar faces return for visits.

While it is in full swing here, both chambers of the South Carolina Legislature were on furlough last week, and the House is taking off this week as well.  The roads debate will be put on hold until they return but we remain hopeful that we will be able to make significant strides to reinvest in our South Carolina roads and bridges this year.  We are also very encouraged by the progress the South Carolina Senate Finance Committee has made on advancing the Military Retirement Income Tax Exemption legislation.  This bill seeks to eliminate income tax on military retirement income in South Carolina.  The measure could be beneficial to our community in many ways.  We’re continuing to watch this important piece of legislation and will keep you posted.

All the Best,
