This Thursday, December 1st, the new Overtime Rule was supposed to go into effect causing employers to choose from one of the following options: increase their employees’ salaries to meet the new salary threshold, limit their employees’ hours to 40 hours per week, or pay time-and-a-half to their employees for hours worked above 40 hours per week.

However, last week a federal judge in Texas granted a preliminary injunction to block the Department of Labor’s (DOL) new overtime regulation. While this does not put an end to the Overtime Rule, the injunction will give Congress time to consider a legislative solution to the issue and will give the business community more time to make sure their voices are heard. We will keep our membership informed on further updates as we learn more.

We hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving! We are looking forward to the kickoff of the Holiday season in Beaufort this weekend! On Friday night, join us for A Night On The Town where Downtown Beaufort businesses will stay open late so you can cross off your Christmas shopping list. Enjoy performances by local groups as well as the annual Tree Lighting. Then, on Saturday evening, come out and admire the boat parade at Light Up The Night. Cookies and cocoa will be available at Downtown Waterfront Park. On Sunday at 3:00 p.m., the annual Beaufort Christmas Parade takes place in Downtown Beaufort featuring floats, bands, decorated cars and trucks.

We hope to see you this weekend as we enter into the festive Holiday season!

All The Best,

Blakely Williams
