As you know, the military installations in Beaufort & Port Royal contribute $1.498 billion to our local economy and contribute to the state’s total military impact of over $19 billion.

Last week, Governor Haley hosted the Commanding Officers of each military installation in the state including our military leaders in the Tri-Command.  Brigadier General Terry Williams, Colonel Peter Buck and Captain Anne Lear met with the Governor during her Annual Military Commanders Briefing in Columbia, sharing  important updates and projects going on at our military bases.   During the meeting, the Governor honored South Carolina Military Base Task Force Chairman Bill Bethea with the Order of the Palmetto.  We appreciate Bill’s leadership and support in helping to make our state so military friendly.  This past year, Bill helped get several important military friendly bills passed to support our military families. Congratulations Bill on this prestigious honor!

Congratulations to Port Royal Town Councilmen Jerry Ashmore and Tom Klein on being officially sworn into office last week. We look forward to working with them and leaders in Port Royal on the sale and redevelopment of the Port of Port Royal and other important issues facing the Town.  I would also like to sincerely thank Councilman Joe Lee for his faithful service over the years.

Celebrate 2015 and all the good things to come in 2016 with us in Waterfront Park.  I hope you will plan to join us for Founders’ Night Fireworks on New Year’s Eve.  Bring your friends and family to enjoy entertainment, hot chocolate, refreshments and of course fireworks.  Festivities will kick off at 5:30 pm with fireworks beginning at 7:00 pm.
